FAQ
-
WasteWitness is a medication waste verification system that confirms the drug, concentration, and volume at the point of disposal, ensuring secure disposal and protection against tampering. Designed to seamlessly integrate into the OR or other high-use areas, WasteWitness supports pharmacy automation for controlled substance waste.
-
WasteWitness combines laser-controlled Raman spectroscopy with advanced machine learning models powered by our exclusive MED-ID engine. This technology identifies both the drug and concentration while sensors and cameras precisely measure volume. The result is secure, verifiable waste disposal.
-
Results are typically available within one to two minutes. Upon disposal, the user receives instant confirmation that the medication waste process is complete. WasteWitness also provides detailed data and reports via a cloud-based dashboard accessible to pharmacy managers and administrators.
-
WasteScore is a unique metric that offers insights into provider waste practices, using verified data on drug type, concentration, and disposal trends. WasteScore data can be exported and integrated into larger data analytics systems to help drive process improvements.
-

WasteWitness can test volumes as small as 1 mL. For samples between 0.2–1 mL, flushing the FlowCell with at least 1 mL of water and 1 mL of air is recommended to clear any residue from prior scans. Testing volumes below 0.2 mL is possible, but may result in a higher likelihood of errors.
-
Absolutely. The latest generation of WasteWitness is specifically designed for point-of-care use in settings such as ORs, where liquid-controlled substances are frequently administered. WasteWitness integrates smoothly with existing waste disposal products, including Stericycle’s CsRx®.
